Summary
Most placebo studies have been conducted in the area of pain. In addition to pain, nausea is one of the conditions for which placebo effects have been confirmed. Nausea is a very unpleasant condition that often occurs as a side effect of medical treatments such as chemotherapy and surgery. Medications usually help prevent vomiting but do not sufficiently relieve nausea. To better understand the placebo effect on nausea, it is important to learn more about factors that may limit the placebo effect in clinical settings. One such factor that is common in the clinic is acute stress. Therefore, this study aims to investigate whether placebo effects on nausea are reduced by acute stress and which neurobiological mechanisms are involved. In addition to questionnaires and rating scales, autonomic and humoral parameters will also be measured.
