UEMOA four-class device classification and the AIRP tariff column for class D IVDs
The AIRP applies the UEMOA four-class risk classification to medical devices — class A (I), class B (IIA), class C (IIB) and class D (III) — with a single parallel tariff column for in-vitro diagnostic medical devices (DMDIV) headed « DMDIV de Classe D (III) ». The application letter must state the device's classification according to the classification retained by the UEMOA regulation, and the fee schedule is banded on these classes. A separate 10 000 CFA franc line covers the declaration of laboratory reagents for medical biology.
- The class labels in the AIRP fee table are given in the UEMOA form with the EU-equivalent class in brackets: Classe A (I), Classe B (IIA), Classe C (IIB), Classe D (III); the fifth column is headed « DMDIV de Classe D (III) », not '(II)'.
- The classification RULES themselves are in the UEMOA guidelines annexes I-1 (devices) and I-2 (DMDIV), which the decision adopts; the AIRP procedure document reproduces the class bands but not the rules.
French original column headings: 'DISPOSITIFS MEDICAUX / DISPOSITIFS MEDICAUX DE DIAGNOSTIC IN VITRO (DMDIV)' then 'Classe A (I)', 'Classe B (IIA)', 'Classe C (IIB)', 'Classe D (III)', 'DMDIV Classe D (II)'. The classification-in-the-application requirement is at II.2.1 item 1: 'y compris sa classification conformément à celle retenue par la réglementation UEMOA'.
